The Honorable Jeffery R. Smith, CPA (Indian River), has received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2016, from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

For the 34th consecutive year, the honor of Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the county’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) has been awarded to Indian River County, which is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“I am extremely proud that my office has been able to carry on the precedent set by my predecessor in receiving the GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 34th straight year, and the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for the 2nd straight year,” said Clerk Jeffrey R. Smith. “These awards recognize that Indian River County conforms to the highest standards in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and Popular Annual Financial Report. This gives the citizens of Indian River County the knowledge that their local government is serious about its finances and transparency. I want to thank my Staff of the Finance Department for their talent and dedication in preparing these reports such that these awards are possible and the County Administrator and Commission for the great working relationship we have to make all this possible.”
